Local knowledge

Tree work in Logan

Logan is the most varied council we work in. More than 80 per cent of the city is non-urban, so the run from Sheldon takes us through Cornubia acreage and Daisy Hill bush blocks, past the 1970s brick suburbs of Springwood, Slacks Creek and Kingston with their forty-year-old gums and camphor laurels, down to Eagleby and Beenleigh on the river flats, and out to horse properties at Logan Village and Jimboomba.

The work follows the housing. In the older suburbs it is big gums over roofs, umbrella trees in the pipes and Chinese elms taking over back fences. On the acreage it is fire breaks, fence lines and thinning regrowth. In the new estates around Yarrabilba and Waterford it is cocos palms and golden canes that were never going to fit. Eagleby was one of the first areas Dan worked in and is still a regular run.

Logan City Council tree removal rules

Logan protects vegetation through the Biodiversity Areas Overlay and the Waterway Corridors and Wetlands Overlay of the Logan Planning Scheme 2015. Outside those mapped areas, clearing on a lot under 5,000m² is generally exempt, as is a bushfire protection zone within 10 metres of a dwelling, garden and lawn maintenance, and removal of cadaghi and umbrella trees. Inside a Biodiversity Area, a koala corridor or a waterway corridor you need an operational works approval. Council has an online vegetation clearing decision tool and we run your address through the mapping before quoting.

FAQ

Tree removal in Logan: common questions

Do you cover all of Logan?

Yes. We are based at Sheldon and work across the whole of Logan, from Eagleby to Woodridge. Each suburb has its own page above with local detail. If yours is not listed, ask; we probably still cover it.

Do I need a permit from Logan City Council to remove a tree?

Sometimes. Logan protects vegetation through the Biodiversity Areas Overlay and the Waterway Corridors and Wetlands Overlay of the Logan Planning Scheme 2015. The rest depends on the size of the tree, how close it is to the house and whether the property is in a mapped overlay. We check the mapping for your address as part of every quote and use the council's own published exemptions.

How much does tree removal cost in Logan?

Published Brisbane guides put small trees at $300 to $900, medium trees at $800 to $2,500 and large trees over houses at $2,000 to $5,500, with palms usually $200 to $600 and stumps $80 to $400. Access and what is under the tree move the price more than height. Try the calculator for a range, then get a fixed written quote.

How quickly can you come out?

For quotes, usually within a day or two, and we can often give a rough figure from photos the same day. For jobs, typically within one to two weeks, faster for anything dangerous. After a storm, trees on houses and blocked driveways in Logan come first.
