Tree services in The Gap: what we see and what we do
The Gap sits in a valley below Mount Coot-tha and the D'Aguilar Range, with 1960s and 70s homes on bigger blocks along Waterworks Road and up the steep side streets. The bush is everywhere: spotted gum, ironbark and tallowwood on the slopes, hoop pines and silky oaks in the gullies, and Enoggera Creek and the reservoir at the top. Most blocks have mature gums within fall distance of the house, and bushfire is a real consideration on the western edge.
The Gap is about 55 minutes from our yard, and we plan a full day when we come. Big gum dismantles, deadwooding over houses and bushfire clearance are the main jobs. Trees are often protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 here because so much of the suburb is mapped bushland, though a trunk within 3 metres of the house or under 30 centimetres diameter is generally exempt, and we check the mapping for your lot before quoting (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on The Gap properties
- Spotted gum and tallowwood limbs over homes on steep blocks
- Bushfire fuel along the D'Aguilar edge before the July to December season
- Koala food trees that may sit in mapped bushland

Brisbane City Council rules for The Gap trees
Most of the northside is Brisbane City Council, where the Natural Assets Local Law 2003 applies and the council fact sheet exempts trees within 3 metres of the house, trees under 30cm trunk diameter, dead and hazardous trees, and pruning of up to 20 per cent of foliage a year. Albany Creek, Strathpine, North Lakes and everything north of the Pine River is the City of Moreton Bay, which protects habitat trees and koala habitat through its planning scheme overlays and says you may need approval before clearing. We check whichever mapping applies to your address before quoting.
