Tree services in Holland Park: what we see and what we do
Holland Park was built out in the 1950s and 60s, and the streets between Logan Road and Cavendish Road still carry the trees planted with those homes: jacarandas and poincianas on the verges, mangoes and camphor laurels in the backyards. Blocks are a standard 600 to 800 square metres, and many are now being rebuilt, which puts big old trees right beside new footings and pools. Whites Hill Reserve and Glindemann Park bring bushland and gums into the eastern side.
Our Holland Park jobs run to poinciana and jacaranda reductions, Chinese elm and camphor laurel removals, and clearing trees ahead of a knockdown rebuild. Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 may apply to trees on private land, although a trunk within 3 metres of a lawful dwelling or under 30 centimetres diameter is generally exempt, and we confirm this before we quote (BCC permit fact sheet). Pruning is done to AS 4373-2007 rather than topping.
Things to watch on Holland Park properties
- Chinese elm seedlings turning into 15-metre trees along back fences
- Poinciana limbs splitting out over driveways in summer storms
- Old jacarandas and mangoes in the way of knockdown rebuilds

Brisbane City Council rules for Holland Park trees
Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 protects vegetation in mapped bushland, waterway corridors, significant native and urban vegetation and under Vegetation Protection Orders, including on private land. Council's fact sheet sets out the exemptions that cover most suburban jobs: a tree whose whole trunk is within 3 metres of a lawfully built, occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m²), garden trees under 30cm trunk diameter at 1.4 metres, fence-line trees under 20cm, pruning of up to 20 per cent of live foliage in 12 months, dead trees, and trees showing an immediate hazard. Permit applications are free. None of the exemptions apply to significant landscape trees, and we check the mapping for your address as part of the quote.
