What we do
Tree Lopping in Brisbane, the Redlands and Logan
Ask any Brisbane arborist about tree lopping and you will get a lecture. Here is the short version. Lopping, in the old sense, means cutting limbs back to stubs wherever the height needs to be. The tree responds with a mass of weakly attached shoots, the cut ends rot, and within a few years you have a bigger, more dangerous tree than you started with. Australian Standard AS 4373-2007 Pruning of amenity trees calls lopping and topping unacceptable practices, and so do we.
What we do instead is reduction pruning: bringing the height and spread of the tree back by cutting to well-placed lateral branches that can take over as the new leader. The tree ends up smaller and safer, keeps a natural shape, and heals over the cuts. On some trees, particularly gums, the honest answer is that a big reduction will not hold and removal is the better spend. We will tell you which is which at the quote.
Typical jobs across Brisbane's southside, the Redlands and Logan: reducing a jacaranda or poinciana away from the roof, taking the top out of a leopard tree that has got away, bringing a hedge of lilly pillies back to fence height, and clearing gum limbs off a shed.
What's included in our tree lopping service
Height and spread reduction
The crown is brought back to suitable laterals so the tree keeps a natural shape and a strong structure.
Clearance from roofs, gutters and lines
Limbs over the house, the pool or the service line are cut back with clearance that will last a few seasons.
Crown thinning
Selective removal of crossing and crowded branches so wind moves through the tree instead of pushing on it.
Deadwooding
Dead and dying limbs removed before they drop. On big gums over play areas this is the most valuable cut we make.
Weight reduction on long limbs
End-weight taken off over-extended limbs, the ones that fail in summer storms.
Chipping and clean-up
All prunings chipped and removed. Mulch left for your beds if you want it.
When a tree needs reducing
- Branches touching or overhanging the roof, gutters or solar panels
- Limbs inside the Energex clearance zone around the service wire
- A tree shading the whole yard, the pool or the vegie patch
- Long, heavy limbs stretching out over the house or the neighbour's yard
- A hedge or screen that has grown well past the height you wanted
- A tree that has been badly lopped before and is now a thicket of regrowth

- 03
The job
Crew, truck, chipper and grinder arrive on the day. Trees come down in sections over houses, pools and fences, and everything is chipped.
