Tree services in Belmont: what we see and what we do
Belmont runs from the 1980s and 90s streets off Old Cleveland Road up to acreage lots on the slopes of Mount Petrie and the Belmont Hills bushland. The acreage side is all spotted gum, ironbark, tallowwood and blue gum, with silky oaks in the gullies, and it forms part of the koala bushland that links through to Burbank and Chandler. The suburban side has decent blocks with gums left from the original forest and palms planted since.
We are 15 minutes from Belmont and treat it as home ground. Hazard gum removals, bushfire clearance and thinning over sheds are the usual jobs on acreage, and palm and gum work on the suburban blocks. Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 may protect trees here, particularly in mapped bushland, though a trunk within 3 metres of the house or under 30 centimetres diameter is generally exempt, and we check the mapping when we quote (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on Belmont properties
- Koala food trees on the Mount Petrie and Belmont Hills side
- Bushfire fuel along tree lines behind acreage sheds before summer
- Ironbark and tallowwood limbs over long acreage driveways

Brisbane City Council rules for Belmont trees
Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 protects vegetation in mapped bushland, waterway corridors, significant native and urban vegetation and under Vegetation Protection Orders, including on private land. Council's fact sheet sets out the exemptions that cover most suburban jobs: a tree whose whole trunk is within 3 metres of a lawfully built, occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m²), garden trees under 30cm trunk diameter at 1.4 metres, fence-line trees under 20cm, pruning of up to 20 per cent of live foliage in 12 months, dead trees, and trees showing an immediate hazard. Permit applications are free. None of the exemptions apply to significant landscape trees, and we check the mapping for your address as part of the quote.
