Tree services in Kenmore: what we see and what we do
Kenmore was built out through the 1960s and 70s on bigger blocks along Moggill Road and Kenmore Road, and the original spotted gums and ironbarks were left standing in most yards. Moggill Creek runs along the western side with a bushland corridor, and Kenmore Hills climbs towards the Mount Coot-tha reserves. The gardens have jacarandas and silky oaks from the first planting and cocos palms added since, and a lot of the gums are now 30 metres tall and close to the house.
Kenmore is about 50 minutes for us and we usually spend the day there when we come. Gum dismantles, deadwooding over houses and pools, and palm removals make up most of the work. Trees may be protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003, especially along Moggill Creek and near the reserves, though a trunk within 3 metres of the house or under 30 centimetres diameter is generally exempt, and we check the mapping when we quote (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on Kenmore properties
- Original spotted gums and ironbarks within fall distance of 1970s homes
- Moggill Creek corridor trees that may be mapped by council
- Sudden branch drop from big gums in hot, dry spells

Brisbane City Council rules for Kenmore trees
The western suburbs are Brisbane City Council, so the Natural Assets Local Law 2003 applies. Council's fact sheet exempts trees within 3 metres of an occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m², which covers much of Brookfield, Pullenvale and Moggill), trees under 30cm trunk diameter, dead trees, hazardous trees and pruning of up to 20 per cent of foliage a year. The west also has more mapped bushland and waterway corridors than most of the city, along Moggill Creek, around Mount Coot-tha and through the Pullenvale valleys, so the mapping check matters more here.
