Local knowledge

Tree services in Wellington Point: what we see and what we do

Wellington Point pokes out into Moreton Bay with the King Island walk at its tip and the old village around the station and Main Road behind it. It is one of the Redlands' leafiest suburbs: older homes on generous blocks under mature Moreton Bay figs, jacarandas, poincianas and camphor laurels, with paperbarks and she-oaks toward the foreshore. Hilliards Creek forms the western boundary. Bay winds and salt thin the crowns of exposed trees and leave them prone to storm damage.

Around Wellington Point the crew does a lot of careful work on big old trees: weight reduction on fig and poinciana limbs, deadwooding, and removals where a camphor laurel has become too big for its block. Trees on private land in Redland City may be protected under City Plan overlays or Local Law No. 6, so we check the mapping for your lot as part of the free quote (Redland City Council). Camphor laurel is a restricted invasive plant, which we explain if you have one.

Things to watch on Wellington Point properties

  • Moreton Bay fig roots heading for pools, pipes and footpaths
  • Camphor laurels now 15 to 20 metres tall on older blocks
  • Wind-thinned crowns on bayside trees before storm season

Redland City Council rules for Wellington Point trees

Trees on private land in Redland City can be protected through environmental overlays of the Redland City Plan or Local Law No. 6 (Protection of Vegetation). In urban zones, Council's vegetation clearing fact sheet allows clearing of up to 500m² without approval outside mapped areas, and Council confirmed in November 2025 that routine trimming along fence lines and near buildings is not regulated under the City Plan. Koala habitat is the big one here: the Redlands Coast Koala Conservation Action Plan aims for no net loss of native vegetation, and blue gums, tallowwoods, grey gums and scribbly gums are the trees most likely to be mapped. We check the overlay for your address before we quote.

FAQ

Tree removal in Wellington Point: common questions

Do Wellington Point's old trees have council protection?

Some may. Redland City Council can protect trees through Vegetation Protection Orders and other City Plan overlays, as well as Local Law No. 6, and established bayside streets are where individually protected trees are most likely. We check the council mapping for your address before quoting so there are no surprises later.

How much does it cost to remove a big camphor laurel in Wellington Point?

Camphor laurels grow to 20 metres with wide, heavy crowns. Published Brisbane guides put trees of that size at roughly $2,500 to $5,500, or more where a crane is needed, guide only. Because camphor laurel is a category 3 restricted invasive plant in Queensland, removal is usually simpler from a council point of view than a native tree.

Will you work near the foreshore parks and public paths?

Yes, for trees on your property. Anything on the council reserve or foreshore is Redland City Council's job and we can point you to the right contact. On private land near the foreshore we set up traffic control on the footpath if needed and keep the chipper and truck clear of the walking track.
