Tree services in Mount Cotton: what we see and what we do
Mount Cotton is proper acreage country on the southern edge of the Redlands, next door to Sheldon and rising up to Venman Bushland National Park and the hills behind Sirromet. Blocks are big, often bush-covered, and full of ironbark, tallowwood, grey gum, spotted gum and hoop pine, with old macadamias and mangoes around the homesteads. It is prime koala habitat and mapped as bushfire-prone, so the balance between keeping trees and keeping a safe gap around the house matters.
Dan is ten minutes away, and Mount Cotton work is mostly hazardous gum removal, deadwooding over houses and sheds, and bushfire clearance along driveways and tree lines. Because trees here may be protected under the Redland City Plan environmental overlays or Local Law No. 6, with koala habitat rules on top, we check the mapping for your lot before quoting (Redland City Council). Where thinning to AS 4373 does the job we recommend it over removal.
Things to watch on Mount Cotton properties
- Bushfire fuel and low limbs along driveways before the fire season
- Koala food trees, especially ironbark, tallowwood and grey gum
- Big gums with dead crowns over sheds and horse yards

Redland City Council rules for Mount Cotton trees
Trees on private land in Redland City can be protected through environmental overlays of the Redland City Plan or Local Law No. 6 (Protection of Vegetation). In urban zones, Council's vegetation clearing fact sheet allows clearing of up to 500m² without approval outside mapped areas, and Council confirmed in November 2025 that routine trimming along fence lines and near buildings is not regulated under the City Plan. Koala habitat is the big one here: the Redlands Coast Koala Conservation Action Plan aims for no net loss of native vegetation, and blue gums, tallowwoods, grey gums and scribbly gums are the trees most likely to be mapped. We check the overlay for your address before we quote.
