Tree services in Gumdale: what we see and what we do
Gumdale is one of the last acreage pockets on Brisbane's bayside, with 4,000 square metre to 2-hectare lots along New Cleveland Road and Tilley Road. The name is accurate: spotted gum, ironbark, blue gum and tallowwood cover most of the blocks, with she-oaks and paperbarks in the lower, wetter ground. Many lots back onto the Gumdale bushland that links into the Brisbane Koala Bushlands, and koalas move through the gums here regularly.
Our Gumdale work is acreage work: dead and hazardous gum removal, bushfire clearance around houses and sheds, and thinning along driveways and fence lines. Trees are often protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 here, although on lots over 4,000 square metres a trunk within 6 metres of the house, or any tree under 30 centimetres diameter, is generally exempt, and we check the mapping for your lot before quoting (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on Gumdale properties
- Koala food trees such as blue gum and tallowwood that may need council sign-off
- Dead ironbarks and termite-hollowed gums near houses and sheds
- Bushfire fuel in the tree lines before the July to December season

Brisbane City Council rules for Gumdale trees
Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 protects vegetation in mapped bushland, waterway corridors, significant native and urban vegetation and under Vegetation Protection Orders, including on private land. Council's fact sheet sets out the exemptions that cover most suburban jobs: a tree whose whole trunk is within 3 metres of a lawfully built, occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m²), garden trees under 30cm trunk diameter at 1.4 metres, fence-line trees under 20cm, pruning of up to 20 per cent of live foliage in 12 months, dead trees, and trees showing an immediate hazard. Permit applications are free. None of the exemptions apply to significant landscape trees, and we check the mapping for your address as part of the quote.
