Tree services in Mount Gravatt: what we see and what we do
Mount Gravatt sits between Toohey Forest and the Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve, and the bush comes right down to the back fences on the western and northern streets. Housing is mostly post-war timber and 1960s brick on standard blocks, with 60-year-old jacarandas, mangoes and camphor laurels that are now far bigger than the yards they were planted in. Spotted gums seed in from the reserve, and the overhead lines on Logan Road and the side streets run through plenty of canopies.
The crew is about 25 minutes up the road, and Mount Gravatt work is mostly camphor laurel removal, mango reductions and taking gum limbs off roofs. Trees here may be protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003, though a tree with its whole trunk within 3 metres of the house, or a trunk under 30 centimetres across, is generally exempt, and we check that as part of the quote (council fact sheet). Anything on the reserve edge gets a closer look for koala food trees.
Things to watch on Mount Gravatt properties
- Camphor laurels on 1950s blocks, a restricted invasive plant that grows to 20 metres
- Spotted gum limbs over roofs on streets backing onto Toohey Forest
- Mango trees dropping fruit and heavy limbs onto sheds and carports

Brisbane City Council rules for Mount Gravatt trees
Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 protects vegetation in mapped bushland, waterway corridors, significant native and urban vegetation and under Vegetation Protection Orders, including on private land. Council's fact sheet sets out the exemptions that cover most suburban jobs: a tree whose whole trunk is within 3 metres of a lawfully built, occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m²), garden trees under 30cm trunk diameter at 1.4 metres, fence-line trees under 20cm, pruning of up to 20 per cent of live foliage in 12 months, dead trees, and trees showing an immediate hazard. Permit applications are free. None of the exemptions apply to significant landscape trees, and we check the mapping for your address as part of the quote.
