Tree services in Mansfield: what we see and what we do
Mansfield was built in the 1970s on land that had been gum forest, and a lot of the spotted gums and ironbarks were left standing when the brick homes went in. Fifty years on they are 30 metres tall and often within a few metres of the house. Bulimba Creek forms the eastern edge with a wide parkland corridor, and the blocks off Broadwater Road and Wecker Road are a fair size, which means big trees, pools and sheds all sharing the same yard.
Big gum dismantles are the main job here, along with jacaranda reductions and palm removals. Spotted gums and ironbarks drop limbs in the hot months, so deadwooding and thinning before summer is worth doing. Trees may be protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003, though a trunk within 3 metres of the house or under 30 centimetres diameter is generally exempt, and we check the mapping for your address as part of the quote (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on Mansfield properties
- Original spotted gums and ironbarks within fall distance of 1970s homes
- Sudden branch drop from gums in hot, dry weather
- Creek corridor trees on the Bulimba Creek side that may be mapped

Brisbane City Council rules for Mansfield trees
Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 protects vegetation in mapped bushland, waterway corridors, significant native and urban vegetation and under Vegetation Protection Orders, including on private land. Council's fact sheet sets out the exemptions that cover most suburban jobs: a tree whose whole trunk is within 3 metres of a lawfully built, occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m²), garden trees under 30cm trunk diameter at 1.4 metres, fence-line trees under 20cm, pruning of up to 20 per cent of live foliage in 12 months, dead trees, and trees showing an immediate hazard. Permit applications are free. None of the exemptions apply to significant landscape trees, and we check the mapping for your address as part of the quote.
