Tree services in Wishart: what we see and what we do
Wishart is a quiet 1970s and 80s suburb of brick homes on 600 to 800 square metre blocks, split down the middle by Mimosa Creek and its parkland. The creek corridor holds blue gums, paperbarks and she-oaks, and the older blocks along Newnham Road and Ham Road still have a few of the original gums out the back. The gardens carry the classic 70s plantings: cocos palms, umbrella trees, jacarandas and camphor laurels, most of them now at full size.
We handle a steady run of Wishart work: umbrella tree and camphor laurel removals, cocos palms, and reducing gums that hang over roofs from the creek side. Trees here may be covered by Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003, though a trunk within 3 metres of the house or under 30 centimetres diameter is generally exempt, and we check whether your tree needs a permit before we quote (council fact sheet). Pruning is to AS 4373-2007, never topping.
Things to watch on Wishart properties
- Blue gum limbs from the Mimosa Creek corridor over back fences
- Umbrella trees planted in the 70s now blocking pipes
- Camphor laurels shading out whole backyards

Brisbane City Council rules for Wishart trees
Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 protects vegetation in mapped bushland, waterway corridors, significant native and urban vegetation and under Vegetation Protection Orders, including on private land. Council's fact sheet sets out the exemptions that cover most suburban jobs: a tree whose whole trunk is within 3 metres of a lawfully built, occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m²), garden trees under 30cm trunk diameter at 1.4 metres, fence-line trees under 20cm, pruning of up to 20 per cent of live foliage in 12 months, dead trees, and trees showing an immediate hazard. Permit applications are free. None of the exemptions apply to significant landscape trees, and we check the mapping for your address as part of the quote.
