Tree services in Rochedale: what we see and what we do
Rochedale is changing fast. The old market gardens and acreage lots along Rochedale Road and Gardner Road have been turned into new estates over the past decade, with big houses on small blocks, tuckeroos on the verges and lilly pilly hedges on every boundary. Between the estates there is still acreage with mature ironbarks and blue gums, and reserves with remnant bushland that the developers had to keep. The Gateway Motorway forms the eastern edge.
The crew is 20 minutes away and does two kinds of Rochedale work: hedge and palm jobs in the new estates, and gum removals and clearing on the remaining acreage. Trees may be protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003, and new estate approvals often carry vegetation conditions, though a trunk within 3 metres of the house or under 30 centimetres diameter is generally exempt from council, and we check both before quoting (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on Rochedale properties
- Retained gums in new estate reserves overhanging small blocks
- Lilly pilly hedges planted hard against fences and outgrowing them
- Remaining acreage lots with mature ironbarks near old farm sheds

Brisbane City Council rules for Rochedale trees
Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 protects vegetation in mapped bushland, waterway corridors, significant native and urban vegetation and under Vegetation Protection Orders, including on private land. Council's fact sheet sets out the exemptions that cover most suburban jobs: a tree whose whole trunk is within 3 metres of a lawfully built, occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m²), garden trees under 30cm trunk diameter at 1.4 metres, fence-line trees under 20cm, pruning of up to 20 per cent of live foliage in 12 months, dead trees, and trees showing an immediate hazard. Permit applications are free. None of the exemptions apply to significant landscape trees, and we check the mapping for your address as part of the quote.
