Tree services in Burbank: what we see and what we do
Burbank is 15 minutes from our yard and about as bushy as Brisbane gets. The acreage lots along Mount Cotton Road and Ford Road sit inside and around the Brisbane Koala Bushlands, with Tingalpa Creek running through the eastern side into Leslie Harrison Dam. The trees are the koala's favourites: blue gum, tallowwood, grey gum and ironbark, with spotted gum on the ridges and hoop pines planted near the houses. Lots run from 4,000 square metres to several hectares.
Our Burbank jobs are hazard gum removals, bushfire buffers around houses and sheds, and thinning along long driveways. Trees here are often protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003, and state koala habitat rules can apply too, although on lots over 4,000 square metres a trunk within 6 metres of the house, or any tree under 30 centimetres diameter, is generally exempt, and we check both layers of mapping before quoting (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on Burbank properties
- Koala food trees that may need council or state approval before removal
- Bushfire fuel in the gum forest around houses before the July to December season
- Dead and hollow ironbarks near driveways, sheds and dams

Brisbane City Council rules for Burbank trees
Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 protects vegetation in mapped bushland, waterway corridors, significant native and urban vegetation and under Vegetation Protection Orders, including on private land. Council's fact sheet sets out the exemptions that cover most suburban jobs: a tree whose whole trunk is within 3 metres of a lawfully built, occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m²), garden trees under 30cm trunk diameter at 1.4 metres, fence-line trees under 20cm, pruning of up to 20 per cent of live foliage in 12 months, dead trees, and trees showing an immediate hazard. Permit applications are free. None of the exemptions apply to significant landscape trees, and we check the mapping for your address as part of the quote.
