Tree services in Wynnum: what we see and what we do
Wynnum faces straight onto Moreton Bay, and the older streets behind the esplanade are full of Queenslanders and 1950s homes with Norfolk pines, poincianas and mangoes that have had 70 years to grow. Newer townhouses and small-lot homes sit further back towards Wynnum West, with cocos palms and golden canes squeezed into narrow yards. Paperbarks and she-oaks line Wynnum Creek and the foreshore, and the bay wind and salt shape everything that grows here.
Storm cells crossing the bay hit Wynnum early, and the November 2025 hail runs put 11-centimetre stones on the bayside. A lot of our Wynnum work is storm cleanup, palm removal and deadwooding big old pines and poincianas. Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 may protect trees on private land, though a trunk within 3 metres of the house or under 30 centimetres diameter is generally exempt, and we check this before we quote (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on Wynnum properties
- Norfolk pines dropping heavy limbs and cones in bay storms
- Cocos palms shedding slippery fruit onto paths and gutters
- Salt-burnt and one-sided crowns on trees facing the water

Brisbane City Council rules for Wynnum trees
Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 protects vegetation in mapped bushland, waterway corridors, significant native and urban vegetation and under Vegetation Protection Orders, including on private land. Council's fact sheet sets out the exemptions that cover most suburban jobs: a tree whose whole trunk is within 3 metres of a lawfully built, occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m²), garden trees under 30cm trunk diameter at 1.4 metres, fence-line trees under 20cm, pruning of up to 20 per cent of live foliage in 12 months, dead trees, and trees showing an immediate hazard. Permit applications are free. None of the exemptions apply to significant landscape trees, and we check the mapping for your address as part of the quote.
