Tree services in Lota: what we see and what we do
Lota is a small bayside suburb between Manly and the Lota Creek mangroves, with Queenslanders and 1970s homes on standard blocks and the esplanade running along the water. Paperbarks and she-oaks grow in the wet ground near the creek and the foreshore, Norfolk pines mark the older houses, and the yards have cocos palms, poincianas and mangoes planted decades ago. Salt wind and bay storms hit the eastern streets first, and the November 2025 hail reached the bayside here.
Being 20 minutes from Sheldon, Lota is regular territory for storm cleanup, palm removal and deadwooding pines and poincianas. Trees near the creek and foreshore may be protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 as waterway or wetland vegetation, though a trunk within 3 metres of the house or under 30 centimetres diameter is generally exempt, and we check the mapping for your block before quoting (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on Lota properties
- Paperbark and she-oak roots in drains on low-lying blocks near the creek
- Norfolk pine limbs after bay storms
- Cocos palms dropping slippery fruit on paths along the esplanade side

Brisbane City Council rules for Lota trees
Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 protects vegetation in mapped bushland, waterway corridors, significant native and urban vegetation and under Vegetation Protection Orders, including on private land. Council's fact sheet sets out the exemptions that cover most suburban jobs: a tree whose whole trunk is within 3 metres of a lawfully built, occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m²), garden trees under 30cm trunk diameter at 1.4 metres, fence-line trees under 20cm, pruning of up to 20 per cent of live foliage in 12 months, dead trees, and trees showing an immediate hazard. Permit applications are free. None of the exemptions apply to significant landscape trees, and we check the mapping for your address as part of the quote.
