Tree services in Indooroopilly: what we see and what we do
Indooroopilly runs from the shopping centre down steep streets to the Brisbane River, with pre-war Queenslanders and 1960s homes on standard blocks and a growing number of unit sites near the station. The trees are some of the biggest in the western suburbs: jacarandas and poincianas on the older streets, hoop pines and figs on the river side, and camphor laurels and Chinese elms that have taken over gullies and fence lines. The river flats flood, and the slopes above them are steep and tight.
Indooroopilly is about 45 minutes from Sheldon. Fig and camphor laurel dismantles in sections, jacaranda and poinciana reductions and clearing for unit developments are the regular jobs. Trees may be protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003, and the suburb has plenty of significant trees and river corridor mapping, though a trunk within 3 metres of the house or under 30 centimetres diameter is generally exempt, and we check the mapping before we quote (council fact sheet).

Brisbane City Council rules for Indooroopilly trees
The western suburbs are Brisbane City Council, so the Natural Assets Local Law 2003 applies. Council's fact sheet exempts trees within 3 metres of an occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m², which covers much of Brookfield, Pullenvale and Moggill), trees under 30cm trunk diameter, dead trees, hazardous trees and pruning of up to 20 per cent of foliage a year. The west also has more mapped bushland and waterway corridors than most of the city, along Moggill Creek, around Mount Coot-tha and through the Pullenvale valleys, so the mapping check matters more here.
