Tree services in Birkdale: what we see and what we do
Birkdale stretches from the Tingalpa Creek boundary with Brisbane to the bay at Aquatic Paradise, and most of its housing went up in the 1970s and 80s. Blocks are a good size, and the suburb kept a lot of bushland: the Birkdale wetlands and the Tarradarrapin Creek corridor are mapped koala habitat, and plenty of yards back onto them. Streets carry the usual mix of that era, with cocos palms, umbrella trees, mango trees and gums along the back fences.
The crew's regular Birkdale jobs are cocos palm removals, taking out umbrella trees before their roots reach the pipes, and pruning gums away from roofs and wires. Trees here may be protected under the Redland City Plan overlays or Local Law No. 6, particularly on lots touching the creek corridors, so we confirm the mapping before quoting (council tree protection page). Where we are within three metres of powerlines we plan the job to Energex's exclusion zone rules.
Things to watch on Birkdale properties
- Cocos palms dropping fruit and seed on driveways and into pools
- Yards backing onto the Tarradarrapin and Tingalpa creek corridors
- Old mango trees with heavy limbs over sheds and fences

Redland City Council rules for Birkdale trees
Trees on private land in Redland City can be protected through environmental overlays of the Redland City Plan or Local Law No. 6 (Protection of Vegetation). In urban zones, Council's vegetation clearing fact sheet allows clearing of up to 500m² without approval outside mapped areas, and Council confirmed in November 2025 that routine trimming along fence lines and near buildings is not regulated under the City Plan. Koala habitat is the big one here: the Redlands Coast Koala Conservation Action Plan aims for no net loss of native vegetation, and blue gums, tallowwoods, grey gums and scribbly gums are the trees most likely to be mapped. We check the overlay for your address before we quote.
