Tree services in Thorneside: what we see and what we do
Thorneside is a small bayside suburb wedged between Birkdale and Tingalpa Creek, with the train station at its centre and Mooroondu Point on the water. Houses are mostly older, on blocks that give trees room, and the suburb backs onto the Tingalpa Creek wetlands and the William Taylor sportsfields. Cocos palms, jacarandas, paperbarks and old gums are common, and the mangroves and creek edge mean a good number of lots sit close to mapped waterway corridors.
The crew passes through Thorneside regularly on the way to Birkdale and Capalaba jobs, so small removals and palm cleans are easy to fit in. Trees on private land in Redland City may be protected under City Plan overlays or Local Law No. 6, and the creek edge is where waterway overlays are likely, so we check before quoting (Redland City Council). Wires run along most streets, and we work to Energex's exclusion zones around them.
Things to watch on Thorneside properties
- Cocos palm fruit on driveways and in gutters near the station
- Paperbarks along the Tingalpa Creek edge inside waterway mapping
- Gum limbs over the street wires on older blocks

Redland City Council rules for Thorneside trees
Trees on private land in Redland City can be protected through environmental overlays of the Redland City Plan or Local Law No. 6 (Protection of Vegetation). In urban zones, Council's vegetation clearing fact sheet allows clearing of up to 500m² without approval outside mapped areas, and Council confirmed in November 2025 that routine trimming along fence lines and near buildings is not regulated under the City Plan. Koala habitat is the big one here: the Redlands Coast Koala Conservation Action Plan aims for no net loss of native vegetation, and blue gums, tallowwoods, grey gums and scribbly gums are the trees most likely to be mapped. We check the overlay for your address before we quote.
