Tree services in Thornlands: what we see and what we do
Thornlands sits between Cleveland and Victoria Point and has two personalities. Along Kinross Road and Boundary Road the new estates have small blocks with young palms, magnolias and lilly pilly hedges, while the older streets and the acreage toward Sheldon hold big scribbly gums, tallowwood and grey gum that pre-date the houses. Eprapah Creek and Hilliards Creek both run through, and much of the bushland between them is mapped koala habitat.
In the estates our work is mostly palm removals, hedge reshaping and taking out trees planted too close to slabs. On the acreage side it is dead gum removal, storm damage and canopy lifting for bushfire clearance. Trees here may be protected under the Redland City Plan overlays or Local Law No. 6, so we check your property's mapping before we quote (council tree protection page). We prune to AS 4373-2007 rather than lopping, and explain the difference on site.
Things to watch on Thornlands properties
- Young leopard trees and magnolias planted within a metre of slabs and pools
- Koala food trees in the bush between Eprapah and Hilliards creeks
- Scribbly gum limb drop over driveways on older acreage

Redland City Council rules for Thornlands trees
Trees on private land in Redland City can be protected through environmental overlays of the Redland City Plan or Local Law No. 6 (Protection of Vegetation). In urban zones, Council's vegetation clearing fact sheet allows clearing of up to 500m² without approval outside mapped areas, and Council confirmed in November 2025 that routine trimming along fence lines and near buildings is not regulated under the City Plan. Koala habitat is the big one here: the Redlands Coast Koala Conservation Action Plan aims for no net loss of native vegetation, and blue gums, tallowwoods, grey gums and scribbly gums are the trees most likely to be mapped. We check the overlay for your address before we quote.
