Tree work in West Brisbane
Kenmore, Chapel Hill and Indooroopilly are hilly, leafy and full of spotted gums, ironbarks and tallowwoods that were left standing when the suburbs were built in the 60s and 70s. Many are now 25 to 30 metres tall over houses on sloping blocks with tricky access, which is exactly the kind of dismantle a climbing crew is for. Paddington, Bardon and Toowong are older again, with camphor laurels, jacarandas and poincianas that have grown into and over Queenslanders for eighty years.
Further out, Brookfield, Pullenvale, Moggill and Bellbowrie are acreage: horse properties, bush blocks and river flats where the jobs are fire breaks, fence lines, big dead gums and the occasional camphor laurel the size of a house. We travel from Sheldon for these and usually group a day or two of western jobs together.

The western suburbs are Brisbane City Council, so the Natural Assets Local Law 2003 applies. Council's fact sheet exempts trees within 3 metres of an occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m², which covers much of Brookfield, Pullenvale and Moggill), trees under 30cm trunk diameter, dead trees, hazardous trees and pruning of up to 20 per cent of foliage a year. The west also has more mapped bushland and waterway corridors than most of the city, along Moggill Creek, around Mount Coot-tha and through the Pullenvale valleys, so the mapping check matters more here.
