Tree services in Pullenvale: what we see and what we do
Pullenvale is rural acreage between Brookfield and Moggill, with hectare-plus lots along Grandview Road and Pullenvale Road and Pullen Pullen Creek winding through the low ground. The Pullenvale Forest Park and the ridges towards Anstead carry spotted gum, ironbark, blue gum and tallowwood, and the homesteads have silky oaks and hoop pines planted decades ago. Long driveways, sheds, dams, horse paddocks and tree lines along every boundary are the norm, and koalas are regular visitors.
Pullenvale is about an hour from our yard, so we book a full day when we come: dead and hazardous gum removals, bushfire buffers, and thinning along driveways and fence lines. Trees are often protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 here, and state koala habitat rules can also apply, though on lots over 4,000 square metres a trunk within 6 metres of the house, or any tree under 30 centimetres diameter, is generally exempt, and we check the mapping before quoting (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on Pullenvale properties
- Koala food trees such as blue gum and tallowwood that may need approval
- Dead ironbarks and termite-affected trees along fence lines
- Bushfire fuel around houses and sheds before the July to December season

Brisbane City Council rules for Pullenvale trees
The western suburbs are Brisbane City Council, so the Natural Assets Local Law 2003 applies. Council's fact sheet exempts trees within 3 metres of an occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m², which covers much of Brookfield, Pullenvale and Moggill), trees under 30cm trunk diameter, dead trees, hazardous trees and pruning of up to 20 per cent of foliage a year. The west also has more mapped bushland and waterway corridors than most of the city, along Moggill Creek, around Mount Coot-tha and through the Pullenvale valleys, so the mapping check matters more here.
