Tree services in Moggill: what we see and what we do
Moggill is at the far western end of Brisbane, where Moggill Road meets the river and the ferry crosses to Ipswich. It is acreage and rural-residential country, with lots from 4,000 square metres to many hectares along Moggill Creek and the river flats, and the Moggill Conservation Park on the hills. Spotted gum, ironbark, blue gum and tallowwood cover the slopes, hoop pines and silky oaks stand around the older homesteads, and koalas are common through the whole area.
Moggill is about an hour from our yard, so we come for a full day or more: hazard gum removals, bushfire buffers around houses and sheds, and clearing along driveways and fence lines. Trees are often protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 here, and state koala habitat rules can apply, though on lots over 4,000 square metres a trunk within 6 metres of the house, or any tree under 30 centimetres diameter, is generally exempt, and we check both before quoting (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on Moggill properties
- Koala food trees that may need council or state approval
- River-flat trees undercut or drowned after floods
- Bushfire fuel around houses on the conservation park edge

Brisbane City Council rules for Moggill trees
The western suburbs are Brisbane City Council, so the Natural Assets Local Law 2003 applies. Council's fact sheet exempts trees within 3 metres of an occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m², which covers much of Brookfield, Pullenvale and Moggill), trees under 30cm trunk diameter, dead trees, hazardous trees and pruning of up to 20 per cent of foliage a year. The west also has more mapped bushland and waterway corridors than most of the city, along Moggill Creek, around Mount Coot-tha and through the Pullenvale valleys, so the mapping check matters more here.
