Tree services in Brookfield: what we see and what we do
Brookfield is a valley of acreage lots west of Kenmore, centred on the showground and the old village, with Moggill Creek running down the middle and bushland ridges on both sides. Blocks are mostly 4,000 square metres to a few hectares, with spotted gum, ironbark and tallowwood on the slopes, hoop pines and silky oaks around the houses, and jacarandas along the older driveways. Horses, sheds, dams and long tree-lined driveways are standard, and koalas move through the gums.
Brookfield is about 55 minutes from Sheldon and we book it as a full day. Hazard gum removals, thinning over sheds and paddock fences, and bushfire clearance around houses are the usual work. Trees are often protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 in this valley, though on lots over 4,000 square metres a trunk within 6 metres of the house, or any tree under 30 centimetres diameter, is generally exempt, and we check the mapping for your lot before quoting (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on Brookfield properties
- Ironbark and tallowwood limbs over paddock fences and horse shelters
- Koala food trees in mapped bushland on the ridges
- Creek-side trees along Moggill Creek that may sit in a waterway corridor

Brisbane City Council rules for Brookfield trees
The western suburbs are Brisbane City Council, so the Natural Assets Local Law 2003 applies. Council's fact sheet exempts trees within 3 metres of an occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m², which covers much of Brookfield, Pullenvale and Moggill), trees under 30cm trunk diameter, dead trees, hazardous trees and pruning of up to 20 per cent of foliage a year. The west also has more mapped bushland and waterway corridors than most of the city, along Moggill Creek, around Mount Coot-tha and through the Pullenvale valleys, so the mapping check matters more here.
