Tree services in Tingalpa: what we see and what we do
Tingalpa is flat, low-lying and older than most of the bayside, with 1960s and 70s homes on standard blocks between Bulimba Creek, Tingalpa Creek and the Minnippi Parklands. Paperbarks and blue gums grow in the wet ground along the creeks and the Wynnum Road drains, and the yards are full of the trees of the era: cocos palms, umbrella trees, camphor laurels and jacarandas. The industrial estate to the east has its own share of overgrown boundary plantings.
Tingalpa is a 15-minute run from Sheldon, so we are often there for palm removals, umbrella trees in pipes and gums over sheds. Trees on the creek side may be protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003, though a trunk within 3 metres of the house or under 30 centimetres diameter is generally exempt, and we check the mapping before we price the job (council fact sheet). We also do boundary clearing for warehouses and yards in the industrial area.
Things to watch on Tingalpa properties
- Paperbark roots in stormwater pipes on low-lying blocks
- Cocos palms shedding fruit onto paths and into pools
- Blue gums along the creek corridors leaning towards houses

Brisbane City Council rules for Tingalpa trees
Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 protects vegetation in mapped bushland, waterway corridors, significant native and urban vegetation and under Vegetation Protection Orders, including on private land. Council's fact sheet sets out the exemptions that cover most suburban jobs: a tree whose whole trunk is within 3 metres of a lawfully built, occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m²), garden trees under 30cm trunk diameter at 1.4 metres, fence-line trees under 20cm, pruning of up to 20 per cent of live foliage in 12 months, dead trees, and trees showing an immediate hazard. Permit applications are free. None of the exemptions apply to significant landscape trees, and we check the mapping for your address as part of the quote.
