Tree services in Moorooka: what we see and what we do
Moorooka runs from the car yards on Ipswich Road back to the western edge of Toohey Forest, and the housing is mostly post-war timber and 1960s brick on standard blocks. The gardens carry mangoes, jacarandas and camphor laurels that are 60 to 70 years old, and the streets near the forest have spotted gums and ironbarks that either predate the houses or have seeded in since. Stable Swamp Creek and Rocky Water Holes Creek run through the low ground.
We are around 35 minutes away and do a steady trade in Moorooka removing camphor laurels, reducing mangoes and dealing with gums on the forest edge. Trees may be protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003, especially near Toohey Forest and the creeks, though a trunk within 3 metres of the house or under 30 centimetres diameter is generally exempt, and we check the mapping before we quote (council fact sheet). All pruning is to AS 4373-2007.
Things to watch on Moorooka properties
- Spotted gum limbs over homes backing onto Toohey Forest
- Camphor laurels on 1950s blocks lifting fences and paths
- Creek corridor trees along Stable Swamp Creek that may be mapped

Brisbane City Council rules for Moorooka trees
Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 protects vegetation in mapped bushland, waterway corridors, significant native and urban vegetation and under Vegetation Protection Orders, including on private land. Council's fact sheet sets out the exemptions that cover most suburban jobs: a tree whose whole trunk is within 3 metres of a lawfully built, occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m²), garden trees under 30cm trunk diameter at 1.4 metres, fence-line trees under 20cm, pruning of up to 20 per cent of live foliage in 12 months, dead trees, and trees showing an immediate hazard. Permit applications are free. None of the exemptions apply to significant landscape trees, and we check the mapping for your address as part of the quote.
