Tree services in Annerley: what we see and what we do
Annerley is an inner-south suburb of workers cottages and Queenslanders either side of Ipswich Road, with Ekibin Creek and its parkland along the southern edge. Blocks are small and close, often 400 to 600 square metres, and the trees are old: jacarandas, poincianas and mangoes planted between the wars, camphor laurels that have swallowed whole backyards, and Chinese elms that seeded along fences. Almost every tree overhangs a neighbour or the wires.
Annerley is about 35 minutes for us, and the work is tight-access removal and reduction: camphor laurels and Chinese elms lowered in sections, mango crowns brought back off roofs and poincianas deadwooded before storm season. Trees may be protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003, though a trunk within 3 metres of the house or under 30 centimetres diameter is generally exempt, and we check the mapping when we quote (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on Annerley properties
- Camphor laurels filling small cottage backyards and lifting fences
- Mango and poinciana limbs over neighbouring roofs
- Ekibin Creek corridor trees that may be mapped by council

Brisbane City Council rules for Annerley trees
Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 protects vegetation in mapped bushland, waterway corridors, significant native and urban vegetation and under Vegetation Protection Orders, including on private land. Council's fact sheet sets out the exemptions that cover most suburban jobs: a tree whose whole trunk is within 3 metres of a lawfully built, occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m²), garden trees under 30cm trunk diameter at 1.4 metres, fence-line trees under 20cm, pruning of up to 20 per cent of live foliage in 12 months, dead trees, and trees showing an immediate hazard. Permit applications are free. None of the exemptions apply to significant landscape trees, and we check the mapping for your address as part of the quote.
