Tree services in Ormiston: what we see and what we do
Ormiston is a small, established suburb between Cleveland and Wellington Point, known for Ormiston House and the old estates along Wellington Street and Sturgeon Street. Blocks are large by Redlands standards and many were planted a long time ago, so the suburb carries big jacarandas, poincianas, Moreton Bay figs and hoop pines, with paperbarks and gums along Hilliards Creek on the western side. The train line and Wellington Street carry the main powerlines through the middle.
Most Ormiston calls are for pruning and weight reduction on mature trees the owners want to keep, plus removals where a tree has died or is heaving up driveways. Redland City Council may protect trees on private land through City Plan overlays or Local Law No. 6, and older streets are where Vegetation Protection Orders are most likely, so we check your address before quoting (Redland City Council). All pruning is done to AS 4373-2007.
Things to watch on Ormiston properties
- Heavy poinciana and jacaranda limbs over older homes and carports
- Fig and hoop pine roots lifting driveways on long-established blocks
- Trees beside the rail corridor and Wellington Street wires

Redland City Council rules for Ormiston trees
Trees on private land in Redland City can be protected through environmental overlays of the Redland City Plan or Local Law No. 6 (Protection of Vegetation). In urban zones, Council's vegetation clearing fact sheet allows clearing of up to 500m² without approval outside mapped areas, and Council confirmed in November 2025 that routine trimming along fence lines and near buildings is not regulated under the City Plan. Koala habitat is the big one here: the Redlands Coast Koala Conservation Action Plan aims for no net loss of native vegetation, and blue gums, tallowwoods, grey gums and scribbly gums are the trees most likely to be mapped. We check the overlay for your address before we quote.
