Tree services in Camp Hill: what we see and what we do
Camp Hill is hilly and green, with 1930s to 50s homes on standard blocks that step up and down the ridges off Old Cleveland Road. Whites Hill Reserve on the eastern side is a big patch of bushland, and its spotted gums and ironbarks spill into the neighbouring backyards. The older streets have jacarandas and camphor laurels planted before the war, plus Chinese elms and mangoes that seeded themselves along fence lines and have grown into serious trees.
Steep driveways and retaining walls make Camp Hill access tricky, so most trees are climbed and lowered in sections. We remove a lot of camphor laurels and Chinese elms here, both restricted invasive plants, and prune gums on the reserve edge. Trees may be protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003, though one with its trunk within 3 metres of the house or under 30 centimetres diameter is generally exempt, and we check this while quoting (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on Camp Hill properties
- Chinese elms and camphor laurels lifting concrete on sloping blocks
- Spotted gum limbs over homes backing onto Whites Hill Reserve
- Leopard tree roots against retaining walls and pool shells

Brisbane City Council rules for Camp Hill trees
Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003 protects vegetation in mapped bushland, waterway corridors, significant native and urban vegetation and under Vegetation Protection Orders, including on private land. Council's fact sheet sets out the exemptions that cover most suburban jobs: a tree whose whole trunk is within 3 metres of a lawfully built, occupied dwelling (6 metres on lots over 4,000m²), garden trees under 30cm trunk diameter at 1.4 metres, fence-line trees under 20cm, pruning of up to 20 per cent of live foliage in 12 months, dead trees, and trees showing an immediate hazard. Permit applications are free. None of the exemptions apply to significant landscape trees, and we check the mapping for your address as part of the quote.
