Tree services in North Lakes: what we see and what we do
North Lakes is a master-planned estate built through the 2000s and 2010s in the City of Moreton Bay, with big houses on small blocks around Lake Eden, the golf course and the Westfield centre. The gardens were planted from the same catalogue: golden canes, Alexandra palms, lilly pilly hedges, tuckeroos and frangipanis, all now 15 to 20 years old and outgrowing their spots. Blue gums and paperbarks were kept in the parks and along the drainage reserves.
North Lakes is about an hour from our yard, so we book a day of work at a time: hedge reshapes, palm and golden cane removals and reducing tuckeroos over driveways. Under the City of Moreton Bay's rules the council may require approval to clear native vegetation, and mapped koala habitat generally cannot be cleared without it, though most estate palms and hedges are not native, and we check the mapping for your block during the quote (Moreton Bay clearing page).
Things to watch on North Lakes properties
- Golden canes and Alexandra palms planted hard against fences and gutters
- Lilly pilly hedges that have doubled in height
- Reserve gums along drainage corridors overhanging small blocks

City of Moreton Bay rules for North Lakes trees
Most of the northside is Brisbane City Council, where the Natural Assets Local Law 2003 applies and the council fact sheet exempts trees within 3 metres of the house, trees under 30cm trunk diameter, dead and hazardous trees, and pruning of up to 20 per cent of foliage a year. Albany Creek, Strathpine, North Lakes and everything north of the Pine River is the City of Moreton Bay, which protects habitat trees and koala habitat through its planning scheme overlays and says you may need approval before clearing. We check whichever mapping applies to your address before quoting.
