Tree services in Bracken Ridge: what we see and what we do
Bracken Ridge was built through the 1970s and 80s on the high ground above the Cabbage Tree Creek wetlands, with brick homes on standard blocks and a ring of bushland reserves. Blue gums and ironbarks were left in the reserves and along some boundaries, paperbarks fill the low ground towards Bald Hills, and the yards have cocos palms, umbrella trees and golden canes from the original landscaping. The Gateway Motorway runs along the eastern edge.
Bracken Ridge is about 55 minutes from Sheldon and gets covered on our north-side runs. Gum dismantles beside houses, palm and umbrella tree removals and hedge reshapes are the usual jobs. Trees may be protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003, particularly in the reserves and wetland edges, though a trunk within 3 metres of the house or under 30 centimetres diameter is generally exempt, and we check the mapping before quoting (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on Bracken Ridge properties
- Blue gums in the reserves overhanging 1980s back fences
- Umbrella trees planted in the 70s now in the pipes
- Paperbarks in wet ground near the creek that may be mapped wetland

Brisbane City Council rules for Bracken Ridge trees
Most of the northside is Brisbane City Council, where the Natural Assets Local Law 2003 applies and the council fact sheet exempts trees within 3 metres of the house, trees under 30cm trunk diameter, dead and hazardous trees, and pruning of up to 20 per cent of foliage a year. Albany Creek, Strathpine, North Lakes and everything north of the Pine River is the City of Moreton Bay, which protects habitat trees and koala habitat through its planning scheme overlays and says you may need approval before clearing. We check whichever mapping applies to your address before quoting.
