Tree services in Bridgeman Downs: what we see and what we do
Bridgeman Downs is one of the few acreage pockets left on Brisbane's north side, with hectare lots along Beckett Road and Ridley Road that are steadily being split into big-block estates. Spotted gums, ironbarks and blue gums cover the older lots and line Cabbage Tree Creek, while the newer homes have gone in with leopard trees, golden canes and cocos palms. Long driveways, sheds and dams on the acreage sit alongside new pools and fences on the subdivided blocks.
Bridgeman Downs is around 55 minutes from Sheldon, so we book it as a full day. Gum removals on acreage, clearing ahead of subdivision and palm and leopard tree work on the newer blocks are the usual jobs. Trees may be protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003, though on lots over 4,000 square metres a trunk within 6 metres of the house, or any tree under 30 centimetres diameter, is generally exempt, and we check the mapping before quoting (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on Bridgeman Downs properties

- Creek corridor trees along Cabbage Tree Creek that may be mapped

Brisbane City Council rules for Bridgeman Downs trees
Most of the northside is Brisbane City Council, where the Natural Assets Local Law 2003 applies and the council fact sheet exempts trees within 3 metres of the house, trees under 30cm trunk diameter, dead and hazardous trees, and pruning of up to 20 per cent of foliage a year. Albany Creek, Strathpine, North Lakes and everything north of the Pine River is the City of Moreton Bay, which protects habitat trees and koala habitat through its planning scheme overlays and says you may need approval before clearing. We check whichever mapping applies to your address before quoting.
