Tree services in Sandgate: what we see and what we do
Sandgate is Brisbane's northern bayside town, with Queenslanders and interwar homes on standard blocks between Flinders Parade and Einbunpin Lagoon. Norfolk pines and figs line the foreshore and the older streets, paperbarks and she-oaks grow around the lagoon and the wetlands towards Boondall, and the yards carry poincianas and cocos palms. The bay wind is constant, storms come straight across the water, and the salt shapes every crown on the eastern side.
Sandgate is about 50 minutes from our yard, so it is a planned trip rather than a quick call-out, but the work suits us: pine and fig dismantles, palm removals and storm cleanup. Trees near the lagoon and wetlands may be protected under Brisbane City Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003, though a trunk within 3 metres of the house or under 30 centimetres diameter is generally exempt, and we check the mapping for your block before we quote (council fact sheet).
Things to watch on Sandgate properties
- Norfolk pines dropping limbs onto roofs in bay storms
- Wetland paperbarks and she-oaks near Einbunpin Lagoon that may be mapped
- Cocos palms shedding slippery fruit on paths and decks

Brisbane City Council rules for Sandgate trees
Most of the northside is Brisbane City Council, where the Natural Assets Local Law 2003 applies and the council fact sheet exempts trees within 3 metres of the house, trees under 30cm trunk diameter, dead and hazardous trees, and pruning of up to 20 per cent of foliage a year. Albany Creek, Strathpine, North Lakes and everything north of the Pine River is the City of Moreton Bay, which protects habitat trees and koala habitat through its planning scheme overlays and says you may need approval before clearing. We check whichever mapping applies to your address before quoting.
